Stephen De Zylva’s interest in engineering and air conditioning was borne prior to him entering his teens.

His dad, a senior Mechanical Engineer taught him from the age of 12 how to design and draw on the computer. This led to Stephen working part time at this father’s consultancy.

He started his own business, A1 Thermal on 17 April 2018.

Having cultivated his father’s clients and forged strong relationships, it wasn’t too long before Stephen was subcontracting for these clients.

A qualified Engineer and Refrigeration Mechanic, A1 Thermal is a local business operating in Design, Manufacturing, Installation and Maintenance of air conditioning.

A1 Thermal’s main aim is to exceed its clients’ expectations when it comes to air conditioning.  Its values of honesty and integrity, have enabled the company reap the rewards of growth and success.

Among his clients are: residential developers in Parap and the CBD; Commercial projects at John Stokes Apartments and the Waterfront; and Accommodation and Artillery projects for the Dept of Defence.

In these projects Stephen has successfully performed the preliminary site visits, heat load calculations, specification reports, Construction drawings, As Installed Drawings, O&M Manuals, Balancing of Air flows, Hand over documents, Installation Certificates, Installation of Air Conditioning units and supply, manufacturing, installation of Ductwork with certifications to Australian standards and Building code of Australia. Work that is paramount for any entity in the Northern Territory.

A one stop solution for air conditioning, Stephen’s operation entails taking a project from initial site visit through to construction and certification.

He has undertaken many projects on Government buildings including schools, kitchen exhausts in restaurants and small businesses.

A licensed refrigeration mechanic, Stephen can install and maintain up to 18KW split systems; Air Conditioning inclusive of packaged units, hi wall, Cassettes and Split Ducted Air Conditioning. Such necessities in the NT weather.
